Small Business Support

Silver Spring small businesses will continue to benefit from the supplemental clean and safe services under the BID. However, in addition, the BID will bring marketing, events, and placemaking strategies much more targeted to their needs and priorities. Small businesses will be represented on the board and have multiple opportunities to participate on committees to shape strategies and offer input.

Innovation

The Urban District’s services are defined and overseen by the County with little private-sector input.

By contrast, the BID model brings private-sector creativity, strategic leadership, and ground-level expertise to the table, shaping marketing, economic development and placemaking strategies that help businesses — large and small — meet the challenges and opportunities that lie before them. Leadership and staff are directly accountable to stakeholders.
